Bryn de Bear

Day zero, a bear was reborn in Llandudno, Wales

Day zero, the day my life changed forever!

My parents to be were on a day out to Llandudno in North Wales, a place that would soon become very close to their human hearts. They had been apart for a full month because they went on separate holidays (this was silly of them wasn’t it!), so they wanted do something nice together and Dad picked a day trip to sunny Wales. Now, before I continue, I just want to add a little side note… apparently although this blog is my blog, as my Dad is the editor he is making me tell you about what happened before they found me… he says this will make Mum smile. Well I’m OK with that – she has a beautiful smile 🙂

It’s about a two hour drive from Cheshire, so they arrived mid-morning and parked up. Mum had never been to Wales and Llandudno is probably the best of the seaside resorts on the North Wales coast. First they walked along the famous pier, which is the longest in Wales and the fifth longest in England and Wales. The pier is one of the premier attractions to visit in this Victorian seaside resort and offers superb views, friendly shops, excellent food stalls. Perfect for a relaxing stroll to enjoy the beautiful views of Llandudno and the Irish Sea.

After wasting a little money in the amusement arcades, Dad decided to treat Mum to an ice cream and we’re not talking just any ice cream, we’re talking about a Mr Whippy! The ice cream man made them both laugh hysterically… “do you want blueberry sauce with that?”, “yes, please!”, Mum said… “you have to be 18 for blueberry sauce, are you 18?”, “yes”, mumbled Mum with very wide eyes! They ate their ice creams looking out to sea, with big beaming smiles.

Next the humans decided to venture up the Great Orme, which in a nutshell is Llandudno’s mini-mountain, rich in natural and man-made history and you really can’t miss it. The Great Orme headland is a massive chunk of limestone rising 207m/679ft straight out of the sea and little wonder that its name, given by the Vikings, means ‘sea monster’. Given what I’ve just said, do you think they walked up… correct, of course they didn’t! There are two far easier ways up, either by cable car (no thanks!) or the Great Orme Tramway and they sensibly took the latter.

Here’s where I come in. Mum is a stickler for gift shops, Dad spends a lot of time waiting outside them pretty much everywhere we visit! To cut a long story short – the long story is on the homepage – they bought me and I was bargain if you ask me! Just time for a swift pint of Orme Bitter at Randy’s Bar in The Summit Complex and it was time to head back down on the tram.

They were hungry by this time, so what else to eat at the seaside but fish and chips! To the excellent Fish Tram Chip Shop and two portions please, just salt on both and leave them open… nom nom nom! Our bellies were full before those greedy seagulls had a chance and we walked back to the car and set off to my brand new humble abode.
