Within These Chester Walls

Mum’s best friend was visiting from Poland and it was a Saturday, so we needed an excursion, not too far away. Dad put on his thinking cap – I think he hides it most of the time – and came up with a trip to Chester, just 40 odd miles down the road from our home town and about an hour’s drive, so we set off in the car and before we knew it had arrived and parked up.

Chester is a walled city in Cheshire, England, on the River Dee, close to the border with Wales. It’s Cheshire’s county town and was actually founded by the Roman’s nearly 2,000 years ago! There is tons to see in this ancient city including the largest Roman Amphitheatre in Britain, plus the 1000 year old Cathedral.

If shopping is your thing, you can browse around Chester’s Historic Rows, full of quirky little shops including the excellent Central City comic shop where Dad bought Mum a very cool Marvel Comics Superheroes print. By this time, our belly’s were rumbling so we stopped off at The Old Queen’s Head on Foregate Street for a beary tasty burger and what Mum called the best sweet potatoes in the World! Yummy!
